Upper Macungie supervisors unanimously passed a 2013 budget that again holds the line on taxes, even with the township starting its own 28-member police department on Jan. 1.

Supervisors Ed Earley, Kathy Rader and Sam Ashmar voted 3-0 on the $13.7 million budget, which is $2.7 million less than the current budget.

Township residents will pay $16 more in sewer fees, but their garbage and recycling fees each will decline by $60.

Upper Macungie will adjust its millage, now that Lehigh County's assessment numbers are in.

The millage will go from the current 2 mills to .64 mills. It is revenue neutral for the township -- meaning that the millage will bring in the same amount of tax dollars. However, residents will either pay more or less in taxes based on the new county reassessments on their homes.

Sewer fees will increase to $356 from $340, and garbage and recycling fees each will drop to $288 from $348.  

The lower garbage and recycling fees are the result of the township's new contract with a new hauler. Waste Management will replace Raritan Valley in trash collection.
