Fatal Trick-or-Treat Night Accident Probe Wrapping Up
Fourteen-year-old Jordan Steinmetz was hit by an SUV and killed as he walked along Schantz Road in Upper Macungie on Oct. 26, 2012. He had been trick-or-treating.
Upper Macungie Township Police said Friday the investigation of a fatal pedestrian accident on Oct. 26, 2012 on Schantz Road is ongoing but close to being completed.
Jordan Steinmetz, 14, of Lisa Court, Upper Macungie, was hit by an SUV as he walked along a residential portion of Schantz Road, and killed. He had been trick-or-treating with a friend, and he had been in costume.
Sgt. Corey Reeder of Upper Macungie Towship Police, who took over the investigation from the defunct Berks-Lehigh Regional Police, declined to name the driver of the SUV. He said information on the driver will be released when the investigation is completed.
Reeder reiterated that no charges have been filed in the matter. However, he said any findings and actions could be made public "in a week or so," if the investigation concludes as he expects.
"It's obviously a situation where a lot of people want to know a lot of things, especially the families," Reeder said.
Reeder said various court orders requiring information have taken longer than expected. He would not elaborate on what information the court orders were seeking.

My heart goes out to this family. That night my husband and I traveled that road drove on cottonwood onto shantz rd, very poorly lit and many families were out with young children with no flashlights and dark clothes, it was very hard to see. If the township does not do anything about the lighting more accidents will be happening

In other incidents when accidents like this happen the drivers are charged with vehicular homicide or involuntary manslaughter drivers need to be careful even more so on a poorly light road this child our jordan lost his life thru no fault of his own
