Supervisors Deny Goodwill Fire Co. Plan

The fire company asked Upper Macungie Township to pay for electrical contracting, but supervisors said it smacked of favoritism.

Upper Macungie supervisors denied the request of Goodwill Fire Company #1 of Trexlertown to pay more than $4,800 for electrical contracting services.

There are three fire companies in the township -- Station 56, Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company and Goodwill Fire Company #1 -- and to pay for electrical contracting repairs would be favoritsim, according to township supervisor Sam Ashmar.

"It's a Catch-22 situation. We already paid for roof repairs and we're going to defer any more capital improvements," Ashmar said.

Ashmar said the board is waiting for the capital budgets of all three fire companies, which have not come back from auditing.
