Police Warn of Scam Artist/Burglar Team
A Lehigh Valley couple are most recent victims of a diversion burglary.
Upper Saucon police are warning Lehigh Valley residents to be aware of scam artists who are currently going door-to-door in the area using a tactic called "diversion burglary."
Police responded to a call around 5 p.m. Wednesday from a couple on Jacoby Road in Upper Saucon who said they were approached by a man claiming to "be doing some tree work" at a nearby home.
While the couple was out back looking at potential "work," another person entered the home, removing valuables, police said.
The man who approched the couple is described as being in his early 40's to 50's with a ruddy complexion and about 5 feet 10 inches tall. The men were driving a light-colored, two-door pick-up truck with a diamond-plated toolbox in the truck bed.
Police say that the scam artists could be attempting this technique throughout the region and urge residents to alert friends, family and neighbors.
Police are asking that anyone with information about these individuals, or if you or a neighbor have been solicited, to please call the Upper Saucon Police Department at 610-282-3064.
