Funeral Services Today for Boy Struck by SUV and Killed on Trick or Treat Night

Berks-Lehigh Regional police are continuing their investigation into the fatal pedestrian accident.

Funeral services are today for Jordan Tyler Steinmetz, who was struck by an SUV and killed on Trick or Treat Night in Upper Macungie.

Steinmetz, an eighth-grade student at Springhouse Middle School, was walking west on Schantz Road when he was struck by the SUV, also traveling west on Schantz Road, according to a preliminary investigation.

There is a "Watch Children" sign posted in the area, but on the eastbound side of the road.

Berks-Lehigh Regional police said Thursday the investigation into the accident is continuing.

Steinmetz, of Lisa Court, Upper Macungie, had been trick-or-treating with a friend, and he had been in costume.

Police have not released the driver's identity, nor whether any charges are pending.

Because of the Sandy superstorm, the Parkland School District has not held classes since the fatal accident. The district will provide grief counseling for students and staff, district spokeswoman Nicole McGalla said.
