4 Injured in Route 222 Bypass Crash
Upper Macungie police said the two-vehicle crash happened at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday.
Four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday on Route 222 at Mill Creek Road, Upper Macungie police said.
Taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest were driver Wayne Berryman, 19, of Allentown; driver Josefine Acosta, 36, of Bronx, N.Y., and her two passengers, a 14-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl.
Police said Berryman was traveling south on the Route 222 bypass and turned in front of Acosta's vehicle, which was traveling north on the bypass. Acosta could not stop in time and struck Berryman's vehicle, police said.
The accident happened at 4:24 p.m.

That intersection is a death trap, overbuilding and way too much traffic in this community. Trucks everywhere and speeding warehouse workers heading home. All this building created this bypass for the trucks and it has now become a speeder haven. Sad.

I think Mill Creek and 222 Bypass is a very open intersection. She obviously didn't judge the timing right, but I don't understand why people have problems at this intersection. It's called "slow down" and wait for the next turn arrow if you can't get through on a solid green!

When I was driving home tonight I had the same thought. There always seem to be accidents on this 222 bypass. Is it the way it was built. That intersection at Mill Creek is very wide. I don't know. I try to avoid it for this very reason. It is a stinky road.

Mill Creek intersection should have been designed as an over pass system. Its dangerous northbound stopping of traffic at peak hours will end up killing many people. Any developers who develop near this intersection must convert it as an overpass

The entire project was poorly designed. I reside at the end where traffic joins the old 222 towards Reading. Cars and trucks alike leave the bypass doing 60 to 80 mph right into a two lane residential area where people struggle to just get out of their driveway. There has already been one death there and I am sure there will be others. For those who don't mind taxpayers waste, there are street lights at this intersection that have never worked.

I always thought a bypass was to BYPASS local traffic. There should not be so many lights and cross traffic! It's a shame we waited 20 years for this bypass and this is the best they could design?

You are right about the lights on a bypass, they should not be there. As long as they have nice longer merging lanes lights should not be there and the cross taffic should have been designed to go under it not through it. If anyone has been to Witchita Kansas - they have an amazing bypass. It goes over everything and there is not traffic entering or exiting. It's simply to bypass the normal traffic that happens in that town. The bypass is way above the other roads. So may they should not call it the 222 Bypass but should have given it another name all together. Either way I still like the road but think the speed limit should be higher. I think that stretch of road is a trap for speeding tickets.

Very good point. Even though I, too, use that turn, like Kutztown bypass, limited intersections would not only be better, perhps the speed limit could be SAFELY raised !!
Unfortunately, Mill Creek leads to businesses, so we'll never see that intersection cut out.

at the other end of the bypass, try getting onto 309 south. in the morning there is so much traffic and no flow pattern. everyone criss crosses to get either on the highway or to on Hamilton st. design is so bad my wife will not go that way to work anymore. worst design ever. i really think they designed it to see how many people they can kill.

My 2 Cents- It is called another highway- the Fred Jaindl Memorial Highway- the overpass is needed. Krocks Rd developers will be served by a service road-- much better design
