Bag of Dead Puppies Latest in Lehigh Valley Animal Cruelty and Neglect
Police are investigating the discovery of 11 dead puppies that were also skinned in Lehigh County.
Update Nov. 27: The 11 small animals found dead and skinned near Lower Macungie's Quarry Park have now been tentatively identified as foxes because of their teeth. Further testing is needed to be sure.
2:30 p.m. Monday Update: New information indicates the puppies were skinned, not shaved as originally reported.
Original report:
An atrocious discovery near a Lower Macungie park marks the latest of animal cruelty cases in the Lehigh Valley this year.
Eleven puppies were found dead with some partially inside a plastic bag off Quarry Road near Quarry Park around 4 p.m. Friday, according to state police.
Police are investigating and ask anyone with information to call 610-395-1438.
The puppy case may be connected to another disturbing incident in which a dog was found along Route 863 in Lynn Township in western Lehigh County earlier this month, WFMZ reports. The dog appeared to have been skinned and cooked.
The Lehigh Valley Pitbull Awareness Club is offering a reward for information about the puppy case. The club posted a notice of a $100 reward on its Facebook page and is accepting donations to increase the amount.
Cases of animal cruelty and neglect in the Valley this year include:
- A dog found dumped in a ditch in South Whitehall in July
- Fifteen neglected and wounded horses left in a field in Plainfield Township, Northampton County, in July. One of the horses was pregnant with twins, which did not survive.
- A dog shot to death in Lower Saucon Township in June.
Also, in Chester County, a dog was found burning inside a cage in September.

I don't believe in guns, but this could convince me! If these people are found they should be shaved, killed and dumped by the side of the road. These are not human beings the are souless creatures who do not deserve to live on our planet.

The people who did this are cowards and criminals in the making if not already. What a shame that some people find an incident not worth news. I disagree as I do not see a difference in cruelty to any living creature. Not sure what the laws are like in PA regarding animal cruelty but, I do hope that someone comes forward to law enforcement and rat the bastards out.

There are really no laws, the incidents where charges were filed are no more than getting a moving violation in your vehicle. They need animal laws like the child laws, seems there are more abuse cases against animals than even children.

What do you mean by the statement "they are only animals" Mr Black? Animals are special to so many people and deserve proper treatment. Of course all of us would be upset if it was a person. Are you kidding me? Might you be one of the perpetrators of these insults on animals?

How can you even say that, when you have a pet it's not just an animal, they're
part of our hearts and families, I agree with Barbara and Diane, they do deserve
lots of love, respect and protection. You are heartless person Mr. Black, I really
hope you don't own an animal, I CAN TELL HOW MUCH YOU WOULD LOVE IT!

I'm surprised nobody posted about satanic rituals using the skinning of dogs. A simple Google search will give hits from around the country about this rite.
I do think, though, that if the cowards are caught, they will get a slap on the hand, a small fine, and a night or two of headlines, then go free to commit this again.

Good point Allan, if anybody does find out who did this, the best thing to do is plaster their names and addresses all over the net. Don't call the cops because then they will not pay for their crimes. Let them call the cops after someone punishes them......if they still can!

This is so disturbing right now to know this is happening.g that it sends chills down my spine! Is this going to be a punishment like a simple D.U.I. case..3 months in jail and a $1,000. fine? Allan is right. Someone needs to do something not allow this to happen again to these poor creatures! I am an owner of 3 beautiful dogs who are my life and I refuse anyone to harm my dogs!! An example need to be made out of these "MONSTERS!!! I WILL NOT VOTE EVER AGAIN IF SOMEONE DOES NOT PUNISH THESE BASTARDS! Walter,
You can't reason with the PETA wackos, tree-huggers, and fanatical vegans. To them, animals are, perversely, more important than people and it makes them "feel good about themselves" to be "better" than us "barbarians" who engage in such "primitive" activities as raising farm animals for food, hunting, and eating meat. They are (choose to be) ignorant of the facts surrounding animal husbandry or wildlife management. They ignore the fact that hunters spend billions of dollars every year on wildlife conservation and are the primary means of support for the overwhelming majority of conservation efforts, government and private.
Wildlife control is necessary for the good of both humans and the wildlife. WIthout sufficient natural enemies, without hunting/trapping, most species will overpopulate to the point where there will be a huge die-off due to starvation and/or disease.
Most of those folks won't "get it" unless/until their pets start disappearing and/or their children are bitten (or worse) by foxes, coyotes, etc. Foxes, coyotes, skunks, groundhogs, cats, and bats are rabies vector species ... and the series of shots required if bitten or scratched by one is NOT pleasant and is very expensive, but necessary since rabies is virtually 100% fatal once contracted. Rabies also spreads more readily when the vector species populations get too large because of insufficient controls, adversely affecting the animal population as well as the human population.

Anyone who caught 11 foxes knew what they were doing because they're not easy to get. If they deliberately disposed of them by the park where they were found, they violated the law regarding disposal of the carcasses. However, it's entirely likely that they were disposed of elsewhere and some other hungry critter (maybe even someone's family dog that they let roam freely) fished them out of the trash or dug them up and dragged them to where they are found.
More below on "the horrors of hunting/trapping" for the benefit of all who care to actually base their reaction on facts rather than fuzzy-feel-good emotionalism.

This makes me wonder about the quality of reporting I read in newspapers. Someone jumped to a conclusion about puppies without a full investigation. I wonder what else I read that is not fully explained (Health care, fiscal cliff, Casins leading to lower taxes, lottery helping seniors, Bethlehem nneds 8.5% tax increase to meet budget, schools need more money, etc.)

Jane,
You want your kids attacked by rabid foxes, coyotes, raccoons, etc.?
They have to be controlled or they overpopulated and starve or disease spreads, thn they look for food (pets, kids, etc.) or because they get rabies.
Hunters/trappers control the population (at no cost to public), and spend huge amounts of money each of dollars a year in license fees that are the primary source of support for wildlife conservation. They also, through organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, The Wild Turkey Federation, and many others, donate millions more to wildlife preservation and wild lands preserves.
Wildlife would be scarcer and far worse off without hunters.

Allan, as an explanation -- not an excuse -- everyone reported the best information they had as soon as they had it. The state police report said dogs, so everybody went with dogs. But as soon as Monday's testing revealed they were not dogs and are probably foxes, that was reported to you, too. It's a developing story. Nobody is reporting wrong information. We expect more information today.

5:18 pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2012
Sometimes wonder though if they were foxes or if they claim they were to calm the uproar. I know you would only know what info the police give you, but seen on another site that you would think that the difference could be identified immediatly by someone that is familiar with wildlife, and like I said with most cruelty cases it is nothing more than a fine, so someone getting fined for doing something as disgusting as this would really cause an uproar if they would say they were dogs, which it should. And people would really be dissappointed with the agencies protecting animals, so who knows what to believe.

You're missing my point. I refer to the source - in this case you tell me it is the State police - as reporting incorrect information. It does bother me when anyone reports anything before knowing the truth. This story got a lot of people angry enough to write about shooting, hanging, and killing the people who are guilty of this act.

Foxes are legal to harvest with a fur taker's license. HOWEVER, to dispose of the carcass in such matter IS quite disturbing! Come on people, if taking furs is your forté, be responsible! I also want to say that the original puppy headline made me sick, puppies are family pets. Foxes are small game and are population controlled by hunters with strict limits (assuming the laws are followed) IF they were harvested illegally, the game warden in this area will not have mercy.

Foxes are usually trapped and killed also, they fall into the category like racoons and skunks, usually unwanted animals and possible rabies threat. But to have 11 of them at one shot usually don't happen and to drop them at a park, where not only children, but anyone can find them is wrong.
tamarya
10:22 am on Tuesday, November 27, 2012
But your right, going on your last sentence they probably won't have mercy because if you report to have one trapped on your property, it is trapped and killed.
