$1.2M Spent On Upper Macungie's February Bills

It's just like running a household, according to the township's treasurer.

Upper Macungie Township treasurer Barry Moyer said Thursday night that the $1.2 million spent on February's bill-paying is akin to running a household budget.

But Upper Macungie, now with its own police force and more than 20,000 residents to serve, has a very big budget.

Supervisors reported that the township paid $1,278,710.53 in February bills.

If you think that's a staggering amount, Moyer shed some light on some of the liabilities the township must pay every month.

The bills include:

  • Salaries
  • Health Insurance premiums
  • Police
  • Electricity
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Building upkeep
  • Gasoline and diesel fuel

Plus, Moyer said, the township used more than $70,000 in salt to combat icy roads during the month.
