Obituary: Harold J. Billig

Harold J. Billig, 88, of Fogelsville, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in his home.  He was the husband of Joanne L. (Mutchler) Billig and the late Rachel P. (Bennicoff) Billig. He and his current wife celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last April 15. 

Born in Lynn Township, May 30, 1924, Harold was the son of the late Granville A. and Florence (Kocher) Billig. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class. Harold  was the founder, owner and operator of Billig Trucking Service, Inc. in Allentown from 1969 – 1991.  Harold was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church – ELCA, Allentown.  He was a member of Lehigh Lodge # 326, F. & A.M., Trexlertown, the Lehigh Consistory, Valley of Allentown and the Rajah Shrine, Reading.

Survivors:  In addition to his wife, Joanne; children, Florence L. Pail (John) of Catasauqua, Carol A. Peters (Larry) of Walnutport, Harold G. Billig of Ebensburg, David D. Billig (Sandy) of Claussville, Diane M. Cichonski (Charles) of Allentown, Donald W. Billig (Julann) of Germansville, Judith M. McDonnell (Frank) of Newtown Square, Douglas E. Billig (Jane) of Fogelsville, Sherri L. Confalone (Dan) of Allentown; brothers, Russell Billig (Marge) and George Billig (Nancy) both of New Tripoli; 26 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; caregivers, Karen, Lorraine, Lourdes, Kathie, Cheryl and Pam; predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Ann Burkhard who died in 2008 and a brother, Arthur Billig.

Service: Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc.,  4906 Route 309, Schnecksville with the Rev. John P. Minnich officiating.  Family and friends may pay their respects from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.  Interment will follow the service at Jerusalem “Red” Church Cemetery, Kempton.  Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
