Civic Theatre Presents 24th Annual 'A Christmas Carol'
Dr. Barry Glassman will once again step into the role of Ebeneezer Scrooge, the delightfully miserly creation from Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale, when Civic Theatre of Allentown presents its 23rd annual mounting of “A Christmas Carol” beginning November 30. The production, which will play on the Civic’s Nineteenth Street Theatre, will run through December 15. Glassman has played Scrooge in more productions at Civic than any other actor in the theatre’s presentation of the holiday classic. This production marks his seventh time in the role.
The staging of “A Christmas Carol” has become a cherished tradition at Civic Theatre, as this year marks the 23rd Annual Production of the faithful adaption by Artistic Director, William Sanders and President of the Board, Sharon Lee Glassman. Written in 1989, “the script has changed only slightly in the intervening 20 years.” says Sanders. “The cast is a bit larger – we had an incredibly large turnout for casting this year. Over the years we have revamped sets, costumes and scenes and made some minor changes, but the spirit always remains constant.”
Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol continues to move and inspire audiences. Teaching a lesson that even the coldest hearted individual can transform into an enlightened and understanding soul, “A Christmas Carol” spins a tale of spirit and passion. The production itself inspires passion in many young actors – in this case, nearly 100 performers from the community – who develop a love for the stage. Many of the younger actors are making their Civic stage debuts.
“Each year there is an overwhelming turn out for roles, especially for young actors, so we graciously welcome new cast members. We are always thrilled to introduce many debut performances and give opportunities for children from our Civic Theatre School and elsewhere,” says Managing Director, Michael Traupman.
A full schedule of shows is included in this release, along with more cast and crew information.
